Russ’s Market was started in 1964 by Russ Raybould and his business partner Clayton Burnett.  Russ was a former meat-cutter at a nationally-owned grocery store and knew he wanted to start a grocery store that was more focused on what was best for the neighborhood.  He knew the way to do this was through local ownership. Russ wanted to grow and bought out his partner and changed the company to be Employee Owned. The first store opened at 17th and Washington in 1964, followed by the second location at 66th and O in 1979, the Hastings location in 1986 and three more stores in Lincoln that were converted from Food for Less stores in 1995 (6300 Havelock, 70th and Van Dorn and 33rd and Hwy 2).  The Coddington and West A location opened in 2001.
