West Gate Bank – Proudly Serving Lincoln For 50 Years!
2018 marks the 50th anniversary of West Gate Bank (westgate.bank). Since the beginning in 1968, West Gate Bank has been a family-owned community bank dedicated to serving the needs of Lincoln. That community focus is a vital part of the success West Gate Bank has experienced.
Owned by the Sjulin family since 1980, West Gate Bank has kept the idea of service to the community at the forefront of its mission. “West Gate Bank is proud to be celebrating 50 years of serving the Lincoln community,” said Carl Sjulin, president of West Gate Bank. “As a locally-owned community bank, giving back to Lincoln is an important part of our company values.”
During this golden anniversary year, West Gate Bank has a number of community-related initiatives planned to celebrate this important milestone. In January, West Gate Bank announced a $25,000 a year gift to the Lincoln Community Foundation towards the match fund on “Give to Lincoln Day”. Every participating nonprofit organization will receive a proportional share of the record $400,000 match fund, based upon its percentage of total dollars raised. This year’s event will be held on Thursday, May 31st.
In February, West Gate Bank announced a new initiative to bring financial literacy education to high school students across Lincoln by providing them with access to the EVERFI™–Financial Literacy learning platform. This web-based program uses the latest in new media technology (simulations, avatars, gaming, and adaptive-pathing) to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation. Through this platform, students will become certified in hundreds of topics in personal finance, allowing them to become more informed, responsible citizens. West Gate Bank has partnered with EVERFI, Inc. to bring the interactive financial management program to these high school students at no cost to the schools.
West Gate Bank is also partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln through sponsorship of a home build which will help a Lincoln family obtain the dream of homeownership. “As a community bank, we understand that providing affordable housing is crucial to the continued growth of Lincoln,” said Sjulin. “In recognizing the work that Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln is doing, we are honored to partner with them for this build.”
West Gate Bank employees will be also be participating in the Lincoln Paint-a-Thon this August. In partnership with the Better Business Bureau, a Free Shred Event is planned for the fall. Employees also participate in the Tabitha Meals on Wheels program, Junior Achievement of Lincoln and TeamMates Mentoring. Bank employees also boast a 100% participation rate for 10 years running with the United Way.
