Descendants and researchers of Germans from Russia are poised to enrich their understanding and forge new connections at the 55th Annual American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) (ahsgr.org) Convention, set to take place in Lincoln, from July 30 to August 1.

Lincoln was a major center for arriving Germans from Russia in the late 19th and early 20th century. Because of this important legacy, the 2025 annual AHSGR convention will be held in Lincoln. AHSGR President Bob Ahlbrandt said, “The convention theme is Preserving our Heritage with sessions structured around the three distinct phases of our history occurring in Germany, the Russian Empire, and the Americas.”

Convention chair Jack Unger added, “The convention will include all Germans from Russia, from the Volga to the Black Sea, and where they went after Russia, be that North and South America, Siberia, Kazakhstan, or back to Germany.”

Complementing the convention’s intellectual offerings, attendees will have the opportunity to connect during the Village Gathering and Welcome Night, fostering camaraderie and shared exploration of familial roots.
