This year marks 90 years for ABC Electric (www.abcelectric.net), proud owner of the State of Nebraska electrical license #1, and which is an impressive accomplishment for any business. ABC Electric was locally founded in 1932 by Arthur Badley (AB) Whitmer and his wife Carolyn. AB strongly believed in treating people the way he wanted to be treated, and his philosophy continues to hold true to this day.

AB started out with electrical contracting work and selling appliances from a store close to 23rd and O Street. In 1950, AB’s son Arthur J. took the reins of the company, establishing ABC Electric as the Lincoln area’s preferred electrical contractor. AJ was later joined by his own son William (Bill) Whitmer, who graduated from UNL with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1959. Bill was elevated to company president in 1984 and remained in that position until 2002 when he passed control of the company on to his own son, John.

John Whitmer, AB’s great-grandson, has worked at ABC since graduating from UNL with a bachelor’s degree in construction management in 1988. John is the fourth generation within the family business and remains the president of ABC Electric today.

With the ability, equipment, and expertise to provide residential, commercial, and industrial wiring solutions along with phone/data wiring systems including fiber optic cable installations, termination, and testing; and underground/overhead power distribution systems, ABC Electric has cemented itself as the full-service electrical repair contractor the Lincoln area can trust now and into the future.
