Commonwealth Electric Company Introduces the Panel Shop

Scott Ragland and his team in the Automation Division of Commonwealth Electric Company of the Midwest (CECM; commonwealthelectric.com) are excited to introduce an exciting addition: the Panel Shop. They have kept the following statement from Zig Ziglar in mind over the last year: “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

According to Ragland, the Panel Shop is a way for Commonwealth to engineer, design, and build custom electrical control panels for one-off applications. It is a team effort that starts with a vision and is translated into digital work using the AutoCAD Electrical software to design unique and efficient electrical panels. After the schematic design, the Automation Team begins building, and then finally installing the panel for use.

The most unique thing about the Panel Shop is not their process, however. It is the fact that every panels is UL listed, meaning they are approved by a world leader in product safety testing and certification. The panels are crafted using UL-certified standards, tools, and materials. The shop was also required to have UL-certified training and participate in quarterly inspections to maintain their certification.

The Panel Shop provides many benefits to CECM, including the fact that electrical panels no longer need to be outsourced, and are instead made right on property. In addition, being UL certified means there is guaranteed standards and requirements met, which helps in creating high quality and effective panels. Many states are beginning to adopt regulations requiring electrical panels to be UL listed, so the Automation Team is already one step ahead.
