Cornhusker State Games Seeks Group to Sing National Anthem

The Nebraska Sports Council is now accepting auditions for its annual statewide competition to determine the group who will perform the Star Spangled Banner at this year’s Cornhusker State Games Opening Ceremonies. The group format is new; the competition has been confined to soloists since 2012.

To enter, groups of two or more people must upload one audition video to www.YouTube.com and email the video link to abrockhaus@nebraskasportscouncil.com by April 10th at midnight.  A judging panel will determine up to five finalists by April 15th. Online voting by the public via the Cornhusker State Games Facebook page between April 15th and May 1st will determine the winner of the contest. There is no cost to enter the anthem contest, which is sponsored by Amigos/Kings Classic.

The winning group earns the right to perform the anthem at the CSG Opening Ceremonies on July 15th and will be recognized in the Nebraska Sports Council Yearbook.  Entrants are required to include a group name, names of all group members, and the name, age, hometown, phone number and email address of the group leader, along with their contest video link. All group members must be amateur performers and Nebraska residents for at least 30 days.

Some 14,000 Nebraskans are expected to participate in the 32nd annual Cornhusker State Games, which take place July 15-24.  Registration is now open in more than 60 sports.

Those interested in the anthem contest or other CSG events can register or find more information at www.cornhuskerstategames.com or by calling (402) 471-2544.
