Farris Engineering’s (farris-usa.com) innovative design for the Central Community College Center for Science and Technology earned the 2024 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Nebraska Engineering Excellence Honor Award. This project, doubling the existing space, required advanced engineering solutions to integrate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and technology systems seamlessly.

The project’s success relied on integrating an energy-efficient HVAC system with the existing boiler/chiller system, enhancing energy performance while reducing operational costs and environmental impact. Students now enjoy a comfortable learning environment, fostering a passion for science and technology.

Beyond education, the Center for Science and Technology strengthens community ties by offering internships, STEM outreach programs and economic growth opportunities. Its modern facilities and technology integration provide students with unparalleled hands-on experience.

Featuring collaborative spaces and advanced technology integration, the facility prioritizes energy efficiency and indoor air quality. Despite its complexity, the project maintained operational functionality throughout construction, fulfilling both owner and client needs.

Collaboration between Central Community College and the design team, which included Farris Engineering, ensured the project aligned with the college’s vision, budget and timeline. Leveraging existing infrastructure offered a cost-effective and sustainable solution, emphasizing long-term operational efficiency.
