In June 2025, a customer visited Lincoln Coin & Bullion (lincolncoinandbullion.com) intending to purchase approximately $94,000 worth of gold after being targeted by an online scam. Upon learning the circumstances surrounding the transaction, Lincoln Coin & Bullion employees recognized potential signs of fraud and immediately contacted the Lincoln Police Department.

The victim said she got a computer message saying her computer and bank accounts had gotten hacked and directed her to purchase 28 oz. of gold to be transferred to an agency for “safe keeping”.

Lincoln Coin & Bullion worked with officers of LPD right away to stop this scam and protect the victim’s life savings. With both the LPD and Lincoln Coin & Bullion’s involvement, the victim was informed on potential scams for future protection of her fi nances and possessions.

In Total, Lincoln Coin & Bullion has saved 10 Nebraskans $1.5M of their lifelong savings from similar scams over the past few years. These scams are surprisingly sophisticated and can often take 30-60 minutes until the victim will realize the scam.

Because of the actions of Lincoln Coin & Bullion, they are being awarded the Community Exception Service Award. This award is given by the Lincoln Police Department for outstanding performance under unusual, complicated or hazardous conditions. It is also award for exemplary service over a prolonged period of time for designing and implementing problem solving projects in the community.
