NAWIC Members Donate Gifts to Help Women and Children in Domestic Abuse Shelter

As part of their mission to give back to the community, members of the National Association of Women in Construction (nawicomaha.com) Greater Omaha Chapter 116 generously donated gifts to help women and children who were staying in the Catholic Charities Women’s Shelter over the holidays. Many of the women and children who arrive at the shelter do so with just the clothes on their backs. Thanks to NAWIC, eight families each received dozens of gifts made ready for pickup and delivered by the NAWIC elves. Individual members signed up to “adopt” families in the shelter and purchase specific gifts that met their needs—and a few of their wants. NAWIC sisters purchased a total of 116 gifts, including toiletries, clothing, shoes, boots, coats, and toys to help make the season bright for these families.

NAWIC provides women with education, support, and networking to help advance their careers in construction, build their technical skills, and help them become leaders. All women working in construction are eligible for membership, including those working in the trades, project management, marketing, administration, and executive leadership. Meetings for the Greater Omaha chapter are on the second Thursday of each month in varied locations (mostly on Zoom during COVID), and are open to the public.
