On January 10, the Nebraska State Capitol was turned blue for the first time in state history in recognition of Human Trafficking Prevention Month, symbolizing a unified statewide commitment to awareness, prevention, and action. To mark the occasion, the nonprofits I’ve Got A Name and The Set Me Free Project, in partnership with Lincoln Airport (lincolnairport.com), hosted a community event, Stronger Together, outside the Capitol.
As a key transportation gateway for Nebraska, Lincoln Airport recognizes the critical role airports play in identifying and helping prevent human trafficking. LNK is an active participant in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign and a partner of the Blue Lightning Initiative, which provides training for aviation and airport personnel to recognize indicators of trafficking and report concerns appropriately. LNK is proud to be the first airport in Nebraska to participate in these initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to the safety of passengers, employees, and the community.
The event brought together advocates, service providers, and community members for a visible show of solidarity against human trafficking. Attendees wore blue and heard from organizations working on the front lines of prevention, education, and survivor support, gaining insight into how trafficking impacts communities and how collective action can drive meaningful change.
Participating organizations included Voices of Hope, Lincoln Police Department, CEDARS, Friendship Home, BraveBe, Lily Haven, Nebraska Coalition, and Innocence Freed. The evening served as a powerful reminder that when communities unite, we are stronger together.
