Sun Valley Lanes & Games Hosts 2020 U.S. Open for Bowling

Sun Valley Lanes & Games (www.sunvalleylanes.com) hosted the 2020 U.S. Open for bowling February 16 through 23. The event brought 108 competitors from around the world to compete for the title of U.S. Open Champion. The field consisted of several Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) hall-of-fame bowlers, such as Chris Barnes, Norm Duke, Tommy Jones, Pete Weber, and Walter Ray Williams Jr. After bowling 54 games over the course of five days, five bowlers qualified for the finals, which was televised live on FOX. Viewership for the finals topped 1.1 million viewers nationwide.

Amateur bowler and Midland University alumni Perry Crowell IV was the crowd favorite, but ended his run at the title by finishing in fourth place with a loss to veteran professional, Dick Allen. The number one ranked bowler in the world Jason Belmonte won the title. This was Jason’s 23rd PBA title, 12 of which are major championships. With the win, Jason became only the second professional bowler ever to complete the “Super Slam,” which means he has won each of the five PBA Major Championships at least once in his career.

Sun Valley Lanes is well known for hosting large national and international bowling tournaments. In the past, they have hosted the Intercollegiate Team Championships and PWBA Lincoln Open three times each, as well as the World Youth Championships in 2016.
