#LincolnGoesRed for American Heart Month
Did you know heart disease kills more Nebraskans than all forms of cancer combined? The designation of February as American Heart Month (www.heart.org/Lincoln) is aimed at increasing awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer, although many cardiovascular diseases are preventable with simple lifestyle changes including more physical activity and a healthier diet.
To mark American Heart Month, Lincoln is going red with events throughout February, including: Red Dress Dash on Feb. 2; National Wear Red Day on Feb. 3, and the Heart and Stroke Ball on Feb. 18 at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel. Themed “Playing for the Heart” and chaired by Jeff Noordhoek, Christy Phillips and Shawn Traudt, the event aims at raising features a Heart Hero child and celebrates the American Heart Association’s work and mission, the lives saved and improved thanks to donors and volunteers. The Nebraska State Capitol is also planning to make the Lincoln sky red on National Wear Red Day #LincolnGoesRed. For more information, visit www.heart.org/Lincoln.
