NeighborWorks Adds Three New Homes to Clinton Neighborhood

NeighborWorks Lincoln (NWL, www.nwlincoln.org), a local nonprofit dedicated to stabilizing Lincoln’s neighborhoods, will complete construction on three new homes in February. The units, one single-family and one duplex, are located in the Clinton neighborhood and will soon be home to three first time homeowners who have successfully completed NWL’s pre-purchase education and counseling program. All three homes have buyers.

NWL’s real estate development activity is one tool used to advance neighborhood stability, in concert with its homeownership and community building programs. NWL develops infill properties affordable to residents that earn 80% of area median income. Future homeowners must successfully complete NWL’s homebuyer education curriculum and qualify for a first mortgage with one of the organization’s lending partners to be eligible to purchase an NWL-constructed property. NWL’s community building staff have worked in the Clinton neighborhood for years with an emphasis on resident leadership and engagement.

“This project exemplifies ‘addition by subtraction,’” says CEO Wayne Mortensen. “When we purchased that property in 2020, it was a blighted structure on an oversized lot. We removed the dilapidated building, which posed a health and safety hazard for the community, and have replaced it with three new, affordably-priced homes for low- to moderate-income residents.”

The mission of NeighborWorks Lincoln is to revitalize neighborhoods and support homeownership, keeping Lincoln a safe and prosperous community. For more information about NeighborWorks Lincoln’s neighborhood stabilization efforts, visit www.nwlincoln.org.
