American Heart Association Raises $120K at Lincoln Heart & Stroke Ball
The American Heart Association’s (AHA; heart.org) Lincoln Heart & Stroke Ball, chaired by Dr. Matthew and KaCey Johnson of Bryan Health, raised approximately $120,000 on Saturday, March 7, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Lincoln. The black-tie event drew in more than 350 attendees. The funds raised through the Heart Ball will be used to support local efforts to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
Themed “Dancing with the Docs: Dancing to a Brighter Future,” the evening focused on healthy outlook for all Nebraskans. Community members participated in both a silent and live auction and enjoyed special featured dances, with an opportunity to take part in a mini dance lesson from the DelRay Ballroom. Those in attendance opened their hearts as they listened to a survivor story and “Open Your Heart Pledge,” then had fun with the Dancing with the Docs competition followed by dancing at the After Party with music provided the The 402.
In the past five years, the AHA has funded 23 studies at the following institutions: the University of Nebraska Medical Center–Omaha (18 studies), the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (three studies), and Creighton University (two studies). Funding the studies helps AHA to fulfill their goal of reducing deaths from heart disease and stroke while improving the lives of all Americans.
