What started as a short-term summer class at Willard Community Center (willardcommunitycenter.org) has quickly grown into a popular, ongoing activity for local adults and seniors.
Willard introduced American Mahjong classes this summer, initially offering the class for just a few weeks at a time to gauge community interest. The response exceeded expectations, with participation and interest continuing to grow. American Mahjong is now a regular part of Willard’s Adult & Senior Program calendar.
The group meets every Tuesday from 3:30–5:30 p.m. at Willard Community Center, 1245 S. Folsom Street. New and experienced players are welcome to join.
Willard would also like to recognize Diane Lowe from the State of Nebraska, who helped Willard establish the class and has been instrumental in teaching new players how to play American Mahjong. She continues to attend the weekly sessions, helping participants learn the game, build their skills and enjoy time together.
American Mahjong is part of Willard Community Center’s growing selection of free and low-cost activities designed to provide opportunities for adults and seniors to stay active, learn, socialize and connect with others in the community.
