In 2006, Angels Among Us began as a grassroots organization to support families affected by pediatric cancer. Over the last 20 years, they have grown to provide financial and emotional support to ensure no one walks their journey alone… and they’re just getting started.
AAU is the only organization in the region providing long term sustained financial support to pediatric cancer families. Nebraska ranks #1 in the Midwest and #7 in the nation for incidences of pediatric cancer per capita, making AAU’s mission critical to the state.
Financial assistance is provided to families through critical bill payments, such as rent, mortgage, utilities and car payments. These bills are made on behalf of families for the duration of their child’s critical treatment plan directly to the creditor to ensure funds are used for their intended purpose. AAU also provides emotional support programs at no cost to families, including family wide connection events, support and bereavement groups in partnership with Collective for Hope, in-patient meals and a voucher program with Children’s Nebraska, family kits and more.
In 2025, AAU served 123 families with over $890,000 and over 1,200 emotional support program touchpoints. As AAU celebrates its 20th anniversary, they celebrate another milestone: providing over $1 million in financial assistance in a year for the first time.
