Arc of Lincoln Highlights Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in March

March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and Arc of Lincoln (advocacypartnership.org) is hosting activities to shine a spotlight on the importance of including people with development disabilities in all areas of community life and highlighting the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live. Research indicates that about one in six children are identified to have some type of developmental disability, but they can live normal lives as long as they have the proper supports. President Ronald Reagan signed the National Developmental Disabilities Awareness proclamation in 1987 to bring awareness to that reality.

Arc of Lincoln kicks off Awareness Month with a March 1 fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Don & Millie’s, 8150 O St., during which 20% of each order will be donated to Arc of Lincoln—just be sure to mention the Arc of Lincoln when ordering! They’ve also scheduled a March 28 training opportunity, “Division of Developmental Disabilities Services and Eligibility,” from 5 to 7 p.m. on Zoom [#919 3631 9377, passcode 2021]. The training will be led by Joyful Stoves, a developmental disabilities program specialist for the State of Nebraska.
The mission of the Arc of Lincoln is to encourage and provide opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to lead productive lives and to achieve their full potential.
