BetterLife’s Walk to End Hunger Benefits Catholic Social Services

BetterLife’s Walk to End Hunger was held on August 8 at Pius X High School’s Aldrich Field to benefit the St. Francis Food Pantry at Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska (www.csshope.org). Sponsored by BetterLife Insurance, the inaugural event raised a combined 10,000 pounds/dollars for the St. Francis Food Pantry of Catholic Social Services. Speakers at the event included Katie Patrick, executive director of Catholic Social Services; Bishop James Conley; Lincoln BetterLife representative and event organizer, Mike Hosek; BetterLife CEO Dan Schinnick; and Congressman Jeff Fortenberry.

The St. Francis Food Pantry/Lincoln Food Market at Catholic Social Services provides families the opportunity to select perishable and non-perishable items once per month. They offer meat, dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, and nutritional information and recipes. The Food Market Program at Catholic Social Services also provides free breakfast burritos and sack lunches Monday through Friday. Annually, this program distributes 110,000 pounds (55 tons) to families in need, serves more than 4,300 individuals, provides over 4,500 breakfast burritos, gives out more than 10,000 sack lunches, and serves an average of 130 Catholic families each month through the Catholic School Food Market.

Catholic Social Services would like to thank Mike Hosek, BetterLife, the generous donors, and event participants for working together to feed the hungry and help bring hope in the Good Life.
