Bright Lights to Offer Summer Activities for Kids in Grades K-8

Bright Lights (www.BrightLights.org) has a variety of camps open that will appeal to many ages and interests. Here are a few that take place during their Programming – Week 4, June 22–26:

  • Students in grades K-1 — In It’s a Snap! Intro to Coding (#604), students spend the mornings learning that coding with KUBO is as easy as putting together a puzzle and does not require any computers or coding experience.
  • Students in grades 2-4 — Have a student curious about natural disasters? Do they keep any “eye on the sky” for weather changes? Have them join the morning meteorology team in Eye on the Sky: Weather Watchers (#604).
  • Students in grades 3-5 — Get crafty! Making it Fantastic (#624) camp takes place from 9 a.m. to noon and lets students hone their “making skills” and become a master crafter. At the end of the week, their creations will be on display in a gallery walk!
  • Students in grades 6-8 — Join the classroom lab in Genetic Engineering (#726) and discover how genetic engineering is a common and essential practice in biotechnology. From purifying plasmids to creating a DNA necklace, this afternoon camp brings science to life for students.

Bright Lights encourages students to try something new, opening the door to an entirely new passion! Go to www.BrightLights.org and click on “Register” for a complete list of open camps and to register. Please also watch their website and social media pages for any updates that may occur. Have a student too old to take a camp? Consider having them be a Camp Assistant! Learn more about these volunteer positions and apply at brightlights.org/assistants or call (402) 420-1115.
