Community Action’s (communityactionatwork.org) Gathering Place announced that its year-end match campaign has received a preliminary total of over $267,000. Thanks to generous sponsors who matched $1 for $1, a match pool was created for donations to the Gathering Place made between October 16 and December 31, 2023. Dollars raised will support provision of free, hot, nutritious meals to community members in Lincoln.

“We are humbled by our community’s extraordinary generosity,” said Heather Loughman, Community Action CEO. “More than ever, our neighbors are coming to us each night for a good meal. We wouldn’t be able to keep pace with this increased demand without the partnership of our community.”

The 2023 giving campaign had an initial goal to raise $200,000 total to support the Gathering Place’s work to provide free, hot, nutritious meals to anyone experiencing hunger in Lincoln. Individual contributions were matched by sponsors, including lead sponsor Acklie Charitable Foundation and additional sponsors Nebraska Presbyterian Foundation; Miriam Moeller Charitable Trust; Union Bank and Trust; Bukaty Companies; INSPRO, a Marsh McLennan Agency; Sue Quambusch and others.

Annually, the Gathering Place serves over 43,000 meals. To learn more about the Gathering Place and other programs of Community Action, visit communityactionatwork.org.
