Community Action’s (communityactionatwork.org) Gathering Place announced that its year-end match campaign has received a preliminary total of over $253,000. Over 300 donors had their donations matched by a sponsored match pool of $1 for $1 for donations made between October 14 and December 31, 2024.

The Gathering Place relies on community support to operate its delivery of nightly free, hot, nutritious meals to anyone experiencing hunger in Lincoln.

This year’s donation match pool was led by Acklie Charitable Foundation. Additional sponsors include Union Bank and Trust, Horizon Bank, Miriam Moeller Charitable Trust, Bukaty Companies, INSPRO, a Marsh McLennan Agency, Bison Inc., Ameritas, James Stuart III Family Foundation, Sue Quambusch and others.

Located just a few blocks south of the Nebraska State Capitol Building in a neighborhood with one of the highest poverty rates in Lincoln, Community Action’s Gathering Place provides free meal service seven days a week. All are welcome to receive a meal. In 2024 the Gathering Place served over 55,00 meals. The funds raised during the match campaign will allow the Gathering Place soup kitchen to continue its work.
