With the fall weather upon us, Disrupting Traffick (disruptingtraffick.org) is seeing a need for winter clothing items in their resource center. Open to the community every Tuesday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and by appointment, the Disrupting Traffick Resource Center at 1625 N Street offers advocacy, clothing, hygiene and food items to the most vulnerable to human trafficking.
There is currently a high need for coats, boots/closed toed shoes, gloves, hats, socks and new hygiene items such as underwear, shampoo/conditioner and deodorant.
Throughout the year, the Disrupting Traffick (DRT) team prioritizes outreach at local community events as they collaborate throughout Lincoln to bring awareness to many of the much needed resources available. Recent visits included; L2L Wordstock, Fashion to Freedom, Unmuted – Youth Behavior Health Summit at Malone Center as well as their largest outreach event of the year, Project Connect in downtown Lincoln.
Awareness was brought to not only the exploitation of women and children that is happening inside our very own State but also allowed DRT to share information about services provided at their Resource Center and Safe House.
Along with community outreach, Disrupting Trafficked hosted their annual Standing in Freedom Gala in October. The event shared the year’s wins along with the end of year needs with nearly 200 community members.
Disrupting Traffick is thankful for their Event Sponsors: Anderson Ford, Diversified Safety and Compliance, Nesbitt and Associates, Tredas, New Life Clinic, Rural Health Development, Carlson Projects and Of the Earth Florals. Community involvement matters, and everyday businesses and individuals play a vital role in this work.
