On Saturday, Jan. 10, Disrupting Traffick took part in Stronger Together Blue Out at the Capitol for Human Trafficking Awareness. This first-time family-friendly community event was held on the West Plaza of the Nebraska State Capitol. The movement provided the community and partnering agencies an opportunity to gather, share how their teams are joining forces to bring an end to human trafficking and bring awareness to what is happening right here in the Capitol City and across the state of Nebraska.

Disrupting Traffick’s Executive Director and Founder, Brooke Carlson shared the role their organization plays in preventing and combating human trafficking through community outreach, a newly located resource center, the opening of their emergency shelter as well as transitional housing program.

Brooke supported the notion that collective effort across our state truly requires all of us. This gathering was a unique opportunity to show Nebraska what collaboration looks like. Although a chilly evening, hearts were warmed by agency partnership and a hot beverage provided by Rose Cat Coffee. Community involvement matters and everyday individuals play a vital role in this work.
