Down Syndrome Association for Families to Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day

Put on your craziest socks and join the Down Syndrome Association for Families (DSAF) of Nebraska (dsafenebraska.org/WDSD) in spreading awareness and encouraging acceptance by celebrating World Down Syndrome Day on Saturday, March 21. A free celebration open to the public will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, 1776 N 10th St. Come enjoy live entertainment for the whole family, bounce houses, silent auction items, free food and activities, and even a sensory-friendly room for those individuals needing a little calmer-style of celebration.

The date 3-21, or March 21, signifies the uniqueness of the third copy (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome. People often say the 21st chromosome looks like socks, hence the reason DSAF invites everyone to wear crazy socks to celebrate and show support!

The Down Syndrome Association for Families of Nebraska recognizes that every person with Down syndrome is an individual who has a unique purpose and set of abilities. It is their mission to provide support and a positive vision for the future for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, friends, educators, and professionals who share in their lives.
