Families Inspiring Families Sponsors Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day

Families Inspiring Families (familiesinspiringfamilies.org) is pleased to be sponsoring an upcoming Children’s Mental Health Awareness event on May 18 at 12:30 p.m. The SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) created National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day more than a decade ago to shine a national spotlight on the importance of caring for every child’s mental health and to reinforce the message that positive mental health is essential to a child’s healthy development.

The purpose of Awareness Day is to increase public awareness about the mental health needs of children, provide information on evidence-based practices, and encourage those who need help to seek treatment. Pony Express Riders, (volunteer motorcycle riders) will travel across the state to pick up letters written by children and parents supporting services for mental health in Nebraska. Families across the state will gather at the steps of the State Capitol in Lincoln to greet the Pony Express Riders and to deliver the letters to state officials.

Families Inspiring Families (familiesinspiringfamilies.org) provide Family Peer Support services to parents of children with behavioral health needs. Family Peer Support offers the parent support as they navigate needed resources and services available in their communities. Families Inspiring Families serves Nebraska’s 16 most southern counties.
