Family Service WIC Partners with MilkWorks to Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week

Family Service Lincoln WIC (women, infants, and children) (familyservicelincoln.org) partnered with MilkWorks Lincoln to promote and provide breastfeeding-friendly giveaways via Facebook August 1-7 in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week and World Breastfeeding Month. The two joined supporters from around the world in talking about the benefits of breastfeeding under the theme “Promoting Breastfeeding for a Healthier Planet.”

Family Service WIC promotes breastfeeding every day. They have dietitians and nurses who are certified lactation consultants and sponsor a breastfeeding peer-counseling program that connects pregnant and breastfeeding moms with peers to discuss challenges and successes of breastfeeding. WIC participants include pregnant women, infants, children up to age 5, breastfeeding moms up to one year, and postpartum moms up to six months. Participants must meet income requirements and provide identification and proof of address. Individuals who participate in other income-driven programs, including SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), may automatically be income eligible for WIC.

Family Service Lincoln WIC provides healthy foods and counseling at no cost to eligible participants.
