First Meeting Held for Caregivers Advocacy Network of Nebraska

Caregivers AdvocacyThe inaugural meeting for the newly formed Caregivers Advocacy Network of Nebraska was held on October 5. Jodi Freeman of Roper and Sons Funeral Services presented information on communication and technology and its critical role for 21st century caregivers. She highlighted unique and easy to use applications that can be accessed from a tablet or smartphone and used for storing important medical, financial and legal documents all while protecting confidentiality but still enabling ease of access between family members.

C.A.N.N. was formed by a group of businesswomen who saw within the elder care sector a need of adult children and/or caregivers to acquire additional knowledge and resources to assist them as they navigated this period of time in their parent’s/loved one’s lives. The mission of C.A.N.N. is to “Present substantial and meaningful content on issues of aging, older adult care, and available community resources to modern adult children, caretakers and caregivers.” The format is designed to be concise and give hand-on tools and resources that directly address the issues that matter to adult children of seniors. C.A.N.N. meetings are absolutely free to attend and open to the public. The next meeting will be held on November 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Residence Inn, southeast of 56th and Pine Lake Road in Lincoln. Tammi Uribe of Edward D. Jones and Christine Vanderford of Vanderford Law will be discussing planning for the unexpected and estate planning tips. Other founding members include Lee Nyberg of Home Care Assistance, Rhonda Saunders of Hospice Community Care of Nebraska, Beth Friesen of Oasis Senior Advisors, and Tanya Godwin, also of Vanderford Law.
