Fresh Start (freshstarthome.org) is buzzing with excitement as they celebrate the newly renovated spaces throughout the shelter. They are nearing the end of their $1.5 million capital campaign goal, with just under 10% left to raise. The residents, staff and board members are pleased with the progress so far. LaCresha Brooks, Development Coordinator, expresses gratitude for the exceptional support received during the campaign, acknowledging the community’s strength.
Despite the loud construction, residents are thrilled with the renovations. Monica Zinke, Executive Director of Fresh Start, highlights the importance of modernizing the 90-year-old building to enhance functionality for current and future participants. Safety measures have been improved, upper-level renovations are finished, and the mortgage debt has been cleared.
Ms. Zinke shares “This campaign is increasing our ability to make this feel like a home for our residents. One where they know they belong, and where they can take steps to move forward with the next, healthier phase of their lives.”
There are a few projects pending completion, including the bathroom renovation and painting. Support is still needed to cross the finish line of the campaign and raise the remaining amount.
