Fresh Start Receives $20K Grant from Nebraska Presbyterian Foundation

The Nebraska Presbyterian Foundation has awarded Fresh Start (freshstarthome.org), an agency that helps women experiencing homelessness achieve independence, a grant of $20,000 to continue to serve this susceptible population. The Foundation provides grants to human services organizations that work to meet the needs of vulnerable populations and whose programs create pathways toward greater self-sufficiency and empowerment.

Most of the women of Fresh Start are there because of domestic abuse, mental and physical health issues, and substance abuse, among other reasons. Fresh Start has case managers who help the women address their barriers, offering assistance and support along their journey. The women’s goals include finding a job, housing, reunification with their families (if any), and developing a strong support system.

The funding will support Fresh Start with programming costs, including shelter expenses, case management, and workshops to strengthen the skills they need to live an independent life. The grant will also pay for operating expenses like utilities, maintenance, needed repairs, and two new deep freezers, as well as two new computers for Fresh Start residents to search for jobs and attend telehealth appointments.

Since its establishment in 1991, Fresh Start has served over 1,800 women. Please visit their website at freshstarthome.org or call Development Coordinator Audrey Back at (402) 475-7777 to learn more.
