On Sunday, October 8, Friendship Home (friendshiphome.org) will host its 21st Annual Safe Quarters event. On this day, over a thousand Friendship Home volunteers will head out to Lincoln neighborhoods to knock on every household door and collect financial contributions for survivors of domestic violence, all while raising awareness of the life-saving services Friendship Home provides. Safe Quarters is Friendship Home’s largest annual fundraiser.

In 2022, over $90,000 was raised, and as a result, Friendship Home was able to save and change the lives of over 1,500 victims of domestic violence.

October has served as Domestic Violence Awareness Month since 1987. In Lancaster County, one in four women will experience domestic violence at some point in their life. Through crisis services, emergency shelter and transitional housing, Friendship Home helps survivors, and their children, gain insight into their trauma and guides them to use their strengths to rebuild their lives—free from domestic violence.

Funds collected during Safe Quarters go towards Friendship Home’s mission to provide safe, confidential shelter, crisis services and ongoing support for families who have experienced domestic violence and are rebuilding their lives. To access safe emergency shelter and services, call Friendship Home’s helpline at (402) 437-9302. To learn more about their services, go to www.friendshiphome.org.
