Goodwill (lincolngoodwill.org) celebrated another garage sale season by hosting its 13th annual Neighborhood Challenge. With seven participating associations, Goodwill collected a total of 10,200 pounds of donations.

Goodwill’s Neighborhood Challenge gives Lincoln associations the opportunity to donate gently used items after garage sales or clean-up events. Associations that donate more than 2,000 pounds are eligible to win a cash prize to help fund a neighborhood improvement project of their choice.

This year’s first-place winner was the Highlands Neighborhood Association with 3,281 pounds of donations collected. Southwood Neighborhood Association donated 2,883 pounds of goods and earned second place.

Goodwill thanks all participating associations for generously supporting its mission: “Willing workers employed and community resources maximized.” For 93 years, Lincoln Goodwill has used the sale of donated goods to help local job seekers overcome obstacles, find work and gain financial independence.

In 2024, Goodwill served more than 5,700 individuals in southeast Nebraska through a variety of employment services and programs. The organization also recycles many unsellable donations, diverting over 3.3 million pounds of materials from the local landfill last year.
