Goodwill Industries Celebrates 90 Years of Service in the Lincoln Community

In 1932, Eleanor Miller founded Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska, Inc. (www.lincolngoodwill.org). Charged by their mission of “Willing workers employed and community resources maximized,” Goodwill funds a variety of employment services to the Lincoln community through the revenue of their five retail locations. Their Job Connection Center at 1731 O St. offers free computer access and resources for job seekers to find employment and expand their skills. Goodwill also partners with and provides funding for four local nonprofits: Big Brothers Big Sisters Lincoln, The Community Justice Center, YWCA, and Lincoln Literacy.

“Goodwill is so much more than a thrift store,” said Communications Director Anne-Marie Maher. “We are excited to share our history and impact with the community throughout this year.”

In 2022, Goodwill will show their appreciation to the community through a variety of campaigns. Kicking off in January is 12 Months of Goodwill, where each month Goodwill will share a story in connection to their mission. In the spring, Goodwill plans to host an open house in conjunction with National Goodwill Week.

For 90 years, Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska, Inc. has been strengthening the Lincoln community by providing services for individuals who face barriers to employment and by offering residents an outlet for recycling unused household items and clothing.
