At St. Monica’s (stmonicas.com) Behavioral Health Services, recovery is about more than treatment. It is also about helping women rediscover joy, build healthy connections and learn what it means to have fun in recovery.

For women living in residential treatment, finding new ways to spend free time can be an important part of building a life without substances. Whether it’s painting a canvas, putting together a puzzle, playing a board game with others or heading outside for a game of volleyball, these activities provide opportunities for creativity, connection and, most importantly, sober fun.

St. Monica’s is asking the community to help by donating new or gently used art supplies, games, lawn and outdoor activities, sports balls andequipment, puzzles, and arts and crafts supplies of all kinds. Items that may be sitting unused in a closet, basement or garage could fi nd a new purpose in the hands of a woman working toward recovery.

Keeping hands and minds busy can provide a healthy outlet for stress while helping participants discover new hobbies and interests they can carry with them beyond treatment. Sometimes, something as simple as a deck of cards, a basketball or a box of art supplies can create an opportunity to laugh, connect and experience joy.

St. Monica’s welcomes donations from individuals, businesses, churches and community organizations throughout the year and is happy to arrange pickup of new or gently used items.
