Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (mtko.org) marked three decades of Huskers Helping the Homeless the weekend of Oct. 10 with the support of 11 local businesses whose sponsorships help provide food, outreach and opportunities for people experiencing homelessness and poverty in Lincoln.
The event’s lead sponsor was Mark Bousek of MBA Apartments, who made his gift in loving memory of his parents, Mary Jo and John Bousek, two longtime Matt Talbot volunteers who left a deep and lasting legacy at the organization.
Mary Jo and John served on three hunger relief teams, assisted with multiple facility updates, served on the Matt Talbot board of directors, and volunteered for Huskers Helping the Homeless. Mary Jo was also the fi rst recipient of Matt Talbot’s Compassion in Action Award, a fi tting honor for a woman whose no-nonsense approach and keen business sense were matched by a heart of pure gold.
HUSKER sponsors were Cornhusker Property Management and Sales and Mainelli Wagner & Associates.
BLACKSHIRT sponsors were Custom Machine & Design, Inc., Makovicka Physical Therapy and the REALTORS Association of Lincoln. GO BIG RED sponsors were American Life, Culligan Water, Runza ®, Fikes Commercial Hygiene and Eagle Printing & Sign.
“We are grateful to these local businesses,” said Alynn Sampson, Executive Director. “Their generosity is helping us build a stronger community where hope, dignity and opportunity are within reach for everyone.”
