Over 500 people recently made a difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke by attending the American Heart Association’s 2015 Lincoln Go Red For Women (www.heart.org/Lincoln/) on October 8 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The event is sponsored nationally by Macy’s with local sponsors CHI Health St. Elizabeth and Nebraska Heart.
Hosted by Matt McKay and Lindsey Nielsen from 106.3 KFRX, a media sponsor with 10/11 News, the Go Red For Women Expo raised over $80,000 for the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association. In 2014, the American Heart Association funded $2.68 million in research in Nebraska.
Heart disease is No. 1 killer of women in the United States, claiming the lives of one in three women. The national Go Red For Women movement aims to change that statistic.
The Lincoln Go Red For Women Expo, chaired by Robyn Devore with BKD, started with a health expo and an electronic silent auction. The night continued with a pork tenderloin dinner and an inspiring survivor story. This year, the event featured Lisa Culbertson, who was saved with CPR administered by her coworker-now-husband when she suddenly collapsed in Pioneers Park.
