Lincoln Northeast Sertoma Club Amplifies Student Learning

Fourth grader Christian Harris said it “helps us do more stuff better.” His 2nd grade sister Corinn finds it easier to concentrate.  Their mother, Suszanne Christian, said, “We are so appreciative of what you guys do.”

They are talking about mobile sound systems provided by Lincoln Nebraska’s Northeast Sertoma Club (www.northeastsertoma.org) for all students at Norwood Park Public Elementary School. The club provided $11,000 to the school for the purchase of the cutting-edge Redcat sound system.

Now every classroom at Norwood Park has a new sound system that works in large and small rooms and fills the room with the teacher’s natural voice.  Teachers wear microphones on lanyards around their necks, and a small box nearby evenly distributes their voices to every corner of the room.  Students respond to teacher questions with a hand-held microphone. The system uses exciter technology to apply sound energy directly to a sound panel, which radiates the voice evenly throughout the classroom. No matter where they sit, they hear every word with clarity.

The system is especially useful at Norwood Park as the school is currently undergoing major renovation. Redcat is a great help in counteracting the construction noise and can also be moved to portable trailers on the school grounds.
