LUX Center for the Arts will celebrate the first 100 years of its building; a journey from University Place City Hall to LUX Center for the Arts, which today is filled with artist studios, classrooms and galleries. Events are planned throughout the year to mark the building’s importance to the community and to celebrate its present-day home as LUX Center for the Arts.   Currently, long-time volunteer Shalla Young and new board member Julie Seever are planning a high tea for Sunday, April 27th.

LUX Center for the Arts, located in the historic University Place at 2601 N. 48th Street, is free and open to the public. Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (first Friday of each month until 8 p.m.). Free parking is available on the west side of the building just off of 48th and Baldwin.

The mission of LUX Center for the Arts is to enhance the lives of a diverse public through the visual arts by providing exceptional learning opportunities in contemporary art, craft, and design. These opportunities, honoring the legacy of arts educator Gladys M. Lux, include art classes, residence programs, gallery exhibitions, and community outreach.
