Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (MTKO) recently hosted its annual Brunch in HOPE Garden event on August 9th from 9:30 – 11 am. Tours of HOPE Garden and the welcoming facility were offered, as well as a menu of nutritious smoothies, fruits, and homemade quiches & breads made with ingredients from HOPE Garden. All proceeds from the Brunch will help support MTKO’s Nutrition and Hunger Relief Programs.
Feeding the hungry and addressing food insecurity has been at the core of Matt Talbot’s mission since the organization started in 1992. MTKO’s Hunger Relief Program provides two free meals on-site 365 days a year. Volunteer hunger relief teams provide and serve the majority of the meals. Staff is on-site during mealtimes on the weekdays to provide outreach services to guests at the kitchen. In addition to daily meals, emergency food pantries are provided. Over 800 emergency food pantries were given out last year. MTKO also has an active Nutrition Program which includes Medical Nutrition Therapy, nutrition education, cooking classes for adults and children, and a community garden.
Last year Matt Talbot provided 107,120 nutritious meals to the hungry in Lincoln and provided nearly 21,000 homeless prevention services such as vision clinics, drug & alcohol evaluations, life skills classes, nutrition counseling, and help with obtaining vital identification documents.
