The Mourning Hope Grief Center (mourninghope.org) is honored to partner with First Plymouth Congregational Church to host The Spirit of Giving for bereaved children and their caregivers. Thanks to the community at First Plymouth, grieving kids served by Mourning Hope have a special night dedicated to helping them celebrate the spirit of giving and bring comfort to their caregivers. First Plymouth’s congregation has generously donated a wide variety of gifts for participating children to “shop” for something to give their remaining caregiver. While the children select and wrap gifts, caregivers receive guided meditation and complimentary chair massages and learn strategies for self-care during the holidays.

This invitation-only event is free of charge to Mourning Hope’s participants, thanks to the generosity of First Plymouth Congregational Church.

The holiday season can be especially challenging for those who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives. Typical celebrations with family and loved ones can feel draped with reminders of the loss. When a parent or primary caregiver has died, children often face obstacles in purchasing and wrapping gifts for their surviving caregiver. Children may feel stuck when they try to find a suitable gift to bring joy when life is particularly heavy.
