Nonprofit Association of the Midlands Offers Free Online Census Training

The Nonprofit Association of the Midlands (NAM) (www.nonprofitam.org) is providing a series of free online census trainings open to 501(c)(3) organizations throughout the region. The webinar, “Census 2020: What’s at Stake for Nonprofits” will provide an overview of the census, why nonprofits should play a role, and instructions on how to accurately fill out the census.

The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2020 survey will reach American households in April, and in an effort to increase Nebraska residents to respond to the important, once-a-decade count of the U.S. population, NAM has joined Nebraska Counts. A coalition of Nebraska nonprofit organizations, Nebraska Counts’ goal is to ensure every person living in Nebraska is counted in the upcoming U.S. census.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the census provides the basis for reapportioning congressional seats, redistricting, and distributing more than $675 billion funds annually to support states, counties, and communities’ vital programs that impact housing, education, transportation, employment, health care, and public policy. Nebraska Counts seeks to put its members’ local knowledge, influence and resources into action, educating communities and promoting the census through locally based and targeted outreach efforts.

The coalition is focused on reaching Nebraska’s hard-to-count populations, whether it be through recruiting volunteers to canvass neighborhoods to encourage participation or for nonprofits to provide services to assist residents in the communities they serve to respond to the census. The 2020 census marks the first time American households will be able to respond online.

The Nonprofit Association of the Midlands (www.nonprofitam.org) is a state association representing more than 650 nonprofit organizations throughout Nebraska and southwest Iowa.
