S²age Living opened its doors to the public to introduce a new era of community at its Grand Open House and ribbon cutting event.

The first-of-its-kind-in-the-nation complex—an intentional and accessible home for seniors (55+) and college of health sciences students—had a ribbon cutting event featuring Tabitha (Tabitha.org) speakers and local leaders integral to the creation of S²age: Aubrey Paulsen, Director of S²age; Brian Shanks, Tabitha President & CEO; Dr. Alethea Stovall, Dean of Students at Bryan College of Health Sciences; and Jason Ball, President at the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.

“Who and what you choose to surround yourself with truly matters. Today, you will all see firsthand what makes S²age such a special, unique place to call home,” said Paulsen, before sharing a poem lovingly titled “The Heart of Connection.” Written by Orville Jank, one of the first S²age residents, one of the lines reads “Oh, I’ll never exchange my new home at the S²age, ‘til the Earth and all the stars disappear.”

The gathering area, “Circle in the Square” was aglow with connection, and after the ribbon was cut, local folk band Little Thunder set the tone with live music. Visitors explored S²age and indulged in various activities, including several hors d’oeuvres and refreshment stations from The Venue, wellness tips and giveaways in the fitness center, and self-guided tours through three apartment floorplans.

“Miraculous things are happening at S²age as we speak,” said Shanks. “With the collaboration of the steering committee, generous donors and Bryan Health, Tabitha has introduced a solution to the loneliness epidemic that both seniors and college students face. We cannot wait to see the results of the research and studies we’ll conduct on this new model of living, as well as the meaningful intergenerational relationships that will be born because of it.”
