Some Of Us 4 All of Us is a non profit organization focused on addressing concerns in the Lincoln area. One of their concerns is addressing the food insecurity and the lasting impacts that affect so many in Nebraska, specifically the Lancaster County.
That’s where The Community Fridge comes in. The Community Fridge was created in an effort to combat hunger among our most vulnerable communities bringing nourishment to all who find themselves in need for whatever reason. With an estimated 40,000 individuals in Lancaster County that are food insecure this initiative is timely. The first Community Fridge will be installed at The Salvation Army on 27th and Potter St. and should be available to the public by the end of March.
Here’s how it works: Some Of Us 4 All Of Us places refrigerators on the most vulnerable communities and commission locally owned restaurants to fill them daily with fresh meals. Not only does this help to feed those in need, but it also supports local small businesses. The goal is to fill each fridge with up to 100 meals daily.
These meals are designed to be packed full of nutrients and taste. Each meal follows a nutritional guideline of 1/3 produce, 1/3 protein and 1/3 carbohydrate. The restaurants are sourced to provide variety of different cuisines for a diverse experience.
