TeamMates Honors 92 Graduating Seniors, Awards Scholarships, at Spring Celebration

During their virtual Spring Celebration, TeamMates Mentoring of Lincoln (LincolnTeamMates.com) honored 92 TeamMates students for completing their high school careers. More than 20 of these students also earned scholarships from TeamMates partners and donors to help them pursue post-secondary education in the fall.

Typically, TeamMates hosts a celebration on University of Nebraska Lincoln campus to honor the seniors who have participated as mentees, to award scholarships, and to give community partners and donors the opportunity to meet the recipients of the scholarships they fund. This year, however, the event was held virtually as students, their families, mentors, school staff, TeamMates donors, and stakeholders joined TeamMates staff on Zoom to recognize all 92 graduates and hear congratulatory messages from TeamMates co-founder Tom Osborne, as well as a student speaker and LPS Superintendent Dr. Steve Joel.

“TeamMates Mentoring is a wonderful program,” one graduate said. “In the six or seven years of having my TeamMate, I can say she has helped me discover my individual strengths and (gave) me an overall better outlook on school.”

TeamMates Director Jim Bennett explained the important role that businesses and individuals play in mentoring youth through TeamMates: “TeamMates engages with local businesses and individuals to invite their partnership both as scholarship providers and as mentors,” he said. “When young people see that community members believe in them, it supports their self-confidence and urges them forward.”
