The Branched Oak Observatory is proud to announce its 1st Annual Military Appreciation Day, taking place Saturday, June 20. This special event will honor and recognize the incredible dedication, courage and sacrifice of the men and women who have served — and continue to serve — in all branches of the United States military.

All active-duty military personnel, veterans and their immediate families will receive free admission to enjoy an unforgettable afternoon and evening filled with family-friendly activities, entertainment and celestial exploration under the Nebraska sky.

Guests will experience a wide variety of activities throughout the day, including classic yard games such as cornhole, interactive classroom presentations and exciting hands-on STEM activities. Kids will also have the opportunity to participate in make-and-take space-themed projects to inspire curiosity and creativity.

Adding to the excitement, the internationally recognized 501st Legion will be on site in full costume, bringing the magic of Star Wars to life for all fans. A live band will provide entertainment throughout the event, while raffle prizes and special giveaways add even more excitement to the celebration.

As a gesture of appreciation, free food and beverages will be provided for all active-duty military members, veterans and their immediate families. Several military and veteran support organizations will also be present to provide resources, encouragement and community connections.

The event is expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees and promises to be a meaningful day of celebration, gratitude and discovery. At the Branched Oak Observatory, the mission goes beyond astronomy — it’s about bringing people together, inspiring wonder and honoring those who have helped protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.
