Upcoming SCIP Community Awareness Series Event: Promoting Healthy Behaviors
SCIP (School Community Intervention & Prevention; scipnebraska.com) is partnering with Lincoln Public Schools, Bryan Independence Center, and the Lancaster Prevention Coalition to put on a community awareness series with valuable presentations about how to support the health and well-being of our community’s youth. These events are open to parents, students, school professionals, and community members. No registration is required.
Their upcoming seminar, “The Impact of Stress & Anxiety” on our Youth, is happening on Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at Lincoln High School’s theatre. The presenter, Melissa Lafferty, is a therapist with Nebraska Mental Health Centers. She works with children and adolescents of all ages. Melissa will discuss the difference between stress and anxiety and the impact that both have on children and adolescents. The influence of social media on stress and anxiety in today’s youth will also be addressed and the role teachers and parents can play to help support youth by promoting positive coping techniques and problem-solving skills.
