Youth for Christ Celebrates 50th Anniversary, Kicks Off Serving Hands Public Arts Project

Youth for Christ (YFC; yfclincoln.org) Lincoln is celebrating 50 years, and to kick off the next 50 years, YFC has launched the Serving Hands public arts project. The hands sculptures are currently going up all around Lincoln!

In the 1960s, YFC did quite a few youth rallies similar to what Billy Graham was doing with YFC in the Chicago area. In 1969, Lincoln’s faith community wanted to hire a full-time staff person to start clubs for kids who became believers through the rallies. At that time, it was extremely rare for a church to have a youth pastor. So in 1969, Glen Jones was hired as Youth for Christ’s first director. Fast forward 50 years and YFC has 17 staff and three interns who work within three sub-ministries of YFC. The widespread growth and perseverance of these ministries throughout the years has been incredible; all praise to God, the blessed controller of all things. These memories compel YFC to dream even bigger for the future.

Youth for Christ Lincoln Area is a non-denominational, non-judgmental, non-profit organization serving youth in the Lincoln community and surrounding areas. YFC engages youth through three ministries: Campus Life for high school and middle school teens, Juvenile Justice for jailed teens, and Parent Life for pregnant and parenting teens. Through regular programming and special events, YFC Lincoln Area works with over 2,400 local youth with the goal of engaging them in a healthy relationship with God and others.
