Youth for Christ’s (www.yfclincoln.org) Parent Life Director Julie Strode recently received the Ministry of the Year Award at YFC Regional Conference in Kansas City.
Julie leads the Parent Life program, which is a ministry that reaches out to Lincoln’s pregnant and parenting teen moms and dads. Hope, encouragement, and assistance are the mainstays of the program. Through partnering with the Lincoln Public Schools’ parenting classes at Lincoln High, Northeast, Northstar, and Bryan Community partners, Parent Life educates teen parents on all matters relevant to babies and parenting. Parent Life also provides faith-based support at their Tuesday night meetings and mentoring relationships.
Currently an average of 30 students are involved weekly in the Parent Life program. Five staff, ten volunteers, and a number of community groups work together toward the goal of aiding these students in the difficult transition from teenager to parent, equipping them with all the tools to achieve positive parenting and healthy, responsible self-sufficiency.
Also at the Regional Conference, Lincoln’s YFC chapter received the Global Engagement Award.
