Nebraska Community Blood Bank President Ellen DiSalvo Retires

Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB; NCBB.org) congratulates Ellen DiSalvo on her upcoming retirement on April 1, 2019 after many wonderful years of service to NCBB and the community. DiSalvo has almost 40 years of experience in hospital transfusion services and blood centers.

“The last 15 years have been the highlight of my career,” DiSalvo said. “This team is truly one of a kind. Their dedication and passion for our mission has allowed us to grow and become the largest blood supplier in Nebraska—serving 19 medical facilities in Lincoln and Omaha. It has been an honor to work alongside those who make NCBB what it is today, including our staff, donors, and community supporters.”

DiSalvo joined NCBB in 2004 as its first scientific director, assisting with operations and implementing a new blood bank computer system. In 2006, she became chief operating officer, overseeing blood collections, laboratory, and information services.

After NCBB merged with Minnesota-based Memorial Blood Centers in 2012 to form Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), DiSalvo was named vice president of laboratory services. In 2013, she was named president of NCBB.

“Ellen’s leadership has been integral to our success,” said Kathy Geist, Sr. executive director, IBR. “We now partner with more hospitals than ever before and our NCBB staff serves a growing donor base dedicated to supporting our life-saving mission. We are grateful for Ellen’s vital contributions and wish her well in her retirement.”

Nebraska Community Blood Bank has been connecting people and saving lives for 50 years. NCBB relies on the local community to donate blood to help ensure a safe and stable blood supply is available to area hospitals and other partners. For more information, call 1-877-486-9414 or visit NCBB.org.
