Old Cheney Rehabilitation (oldcheneyrehab.com) is proud to partner with individuals in specialty areas to enhance patient care and our patients’ outcomes. One of those is Kyle Jisa, MD FAAPMR.
Kyle completed his undergrad from Nebraska Wesleyan in 2014. He then completed medical school at UNMC in 2018. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2023, he achieved board certification from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Kyle works with Medrina, which is the largest PM&R group in the US. He serves as one of Medrina’s ten Regional Physicians Leaders where he assists with onboarding and training of new physicians in the Midwest. Kyle states: “When Medrina physiatrists are involved in patient care, they observe:
• Lower 30-day hospital and skilled nursing facility readmission rates post-discharge
• Improved functional outcome scores, such as walking and toileting, which are crucial for independent living
• Higher rates of discharge to home and significantly fewer discharges to long-term care facilities
• A recent financial analysis indicated that our efforts to reduce acute care rehospitalization rates resulted in an estimated $400 million in cost savings for the healthcare system in the single year of 2021”
When asked what he enjoys with partnering with Old Cheney Rehab. Kyle shares: “Old Cheney Rehabilitation is an excellent facility with a strong emphasis on short-term rehabilitation, which aligns with my primary interest. The interdisciplinary setup ensures that patients receive the highest quality of care. I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with the therapy team, nursing staff, primary care team, social services, and administration to strive for the best possible outcomes for our patients. My favorite aspect of OCR is witnessing patients admitted for rehabilitation after a complex hospitalization and seeing them improve functionally to the point where they can safely discharge to their desired living arrangements.”
