The Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) has released its annual community benefit report, which details $815 million in charity care and other benefits the state’s hospitals provide to local communities. The 2010 Nebraska Hospitals Community Benefit Report uses 2009 data, the most recent year for which data is available. The report lists contributions including $130.4 million in Medicaid subsidization; $368.7 million in uncompensated care; and $1 billion in total community benefit contributions and bad debt.

Beyond those community benefits, Nebraska hospitals also inject billions into state and local economies. Nebraska hospitals delivered $8.2 billion in total output to the Nebraska economy; more than 71,000 jobs, directly and indirectly; and $3.3 billion in total labor income in the state.
